Homecoming

This series started with one little drawing - a portrait of a sea gull. Somewhere along the way the gull was lost and a quiet hopeful little cloud emerged instead. I wrestled against it for a while, trying to bring back the motif of the bird soaring across the sea - but the little cloud was persistent. It brings to mind the view from an airplane window. As the world opened up again after 2 long years of lockdowns and uncertainty, and our freedom was returned to us (the lucky ones), I found myself noticing what it is we chose to do with that freedom. For many, it was a chance to finally return home. This work, and this ongoing series, is a tribute to the lengths we will go to to simply be in the same place as the people we love.
